Theme Thursday - Summer Round Up

It's hard to choose just a few favorite pictures to summarize this summer for Theme Thursday. Sure, I have a lot of pictures of the kids but nothing that really stands out as portrait quality. But when I think of what has been important to my family this summer, I think of our garden. It was a whole family endeavor that took over a significant portion of our front yard. We had many volunteer pumpkins that thrived despite our not having planted them ourselves- they were simply gifts from the compost we laid down. We had numerous tomatoes, a few eggplant, some pickling cucumbers, chard, cantaloupe, peppers and some acorn squash (another gift from the compost). As a whole family, we planted, watered, nurtured, harvested, shared, cooked, canned and pickled. In our garden this summer, we grew more than just magnificent sunflowers and ample produce, we grew some family memories. Those, you can't buy in the store.

Your pumpkins look wonderful! I'd say your garden looks great and has been a total successful if all your plantings produced like those pumpkins did. :)

What wonderful gifts! Gardening is defintely a great memory of summer, and it sounds like you spent a lot of good quality family time in yours. Love the picture of forced child labor LOL! ;)

We had our first garden this year -- we started small, just some tomatoes and some squash. Oh, we tried carrots but that's another story for another day. It was a lot of fun and it made it easier to get the kids to try new things -- "You grew it, you have to try it!" I think we're going to go a little bigger next year and after seeing your sunflowers I definitely think we'll do those, too.

Well done! And I agree, a fabulous memory. So many people recall the gardens of their childhoods and I believe it's for a reason. Already Mr. T has delusions of grandeur--the roadside stand at which he's selling next year's produce...

Love those pumpkins!

I completely envy your garden! I have a few pots on the deck and that's it. Haven't even done anything with my cinnamon basil this year and already summer is basically over. Psst, do not tell my Golden Jubilees, they are still flowering!
